We are pleased to announce the publication of Volume 3, Issue 1 of the GW Journal of Ethics in Publishing (GWJEP).

Our third issue includes an article authored by Adrianna Borgia, MS, and Anand Balasubramani Ph.D. on diversity and inclusion in editorial boards; on storytelling and the future of university presses by Sophia Zengierski; and on the troubling rise of book bans, which disproportionately target BIPOC and LGBTQ+ authors, by GW MPS Publishing graduate Jay Soglo.

Notably, all three articles emerged after the authors presented at the GW Ethics in Publishing Conference in 2022 and 2023.

See our Call for Presentations for the 14th conference, which will be held Oct. 10, 2024.

GWJEP Vol 3 Issue 1 includes interviews with several GW students and with Randy Townsend MPS, the inaugural editor of GWJEP and Society for Scholarly Publishing President, on their views on ethics in publishing.

Lois Jones, Peer Review Director at American Psychological Association and GW Publishing part-time professor, serves as the journal's Editor-in-Chief and has provided a guiding and supportive hand to students.

GWJEP was conceived and operates as a student-managed journal that provides hands-on, professional experience in scholarly publishing that can be leveraged for students' career advancement; and several students including Tia Gracey, MLA, MPS, Managing Editor, have used this experience to gain their first roles in the industry, with American Political Science Association Publishing.

We would like to thank and congratulate GW Publishing students on all their dedicated efforts to publish this issue of the journal. Numerous GW Publishing students serve on the Editorial, E-Publishing, Marketing, Strategy and Sustainability, and the new Content Committee.

Tia demonstrated strong leadership and propelled collaboration across committees. Committee Leads contributed their own impressive leadership skills and hard work: Taylor Gunderson (Editorial), Natalie Mast (Content), Jessica Scruggs (E-publishing), Laila Keadan (Marketing), and Haley Baker (Strategy & Sustainability). Our full list of committee members is available in the issue.

We also thank the editorial board for their support, Josephine E. Sciortino, Julie Vo, and Aliza Becker, BA, MPS.

GWJEP is published by the Graduate Program in Publishing, The George Washington University - College of Professional Studies. It is published on the Manifold platform, developed by the University of Minnesota Press.

The Society for Scholarly Publishing is a sponsor of the journal and we value their support.

We will be celebrating at the SSP Annual Meeting; join us for a Social Hour on May 30th!

Consider submitting an article to the journal. We seek articles on a wide range of topics involvingethics in publishing, a topic that is simultaneously niche and quite broad. You will not only benefit from your article being published but will provide our students with valuable experience in scholarly publishing. And, I should note, that all of these students would make great hires in your organization!

See the Call for Papers for the GW Journal of Ethics in Publishing, or contact me or EIC Lois Jones if you have questions.
