    'Advocacy in Academia: How can educators promote racial justice?' to be held May 17 at Northeastern University

    Boston: May 9, 2018  On Thursday, May 17th from 6-7:30pm at Northeastern Crossing (1175 Tremont St, Boston, MA 02120), Emerald Publishing will host a free educational panel titled "Advocacy in Academia: How can educators promote racial justice?" 
    This panel is inspired by a special issue of the journal Equality, Diversity and Inclusion titled "Broadening the conversation: why Black Lives Matter." The contributors will discuss real-world ways of translating theory in the classroom and different approaches to fostering intelligent and thoughtful conversations around social and racial justice by using the guiding principles of Black Lives Matter. 

    The following contributors are scheduled to speak:

    • Mervan Osborne, Associate Head of School for Student Life at St George's School.
    • Dr. Courtney E. Cole, Assistant Professor of Communication at Regis College
    • Sarah Assante, graduate assistant in Communications at Regis College.
    • Dr. Keith Maddox, Associate Professor of Psychology and Director of the Tufts University Social Cognition Lab

    Co-moderators include Dr. Nicole Aljoe, Associate Professor of English and African American Studies and incoming Director of the African American Studies department at Northeastern University; along with Emerald Publishing's Cara DuBois.

    This event is free and open to the public. Northeastern Crossing is accessible via public transit off of the Ruggles stop on the Orange Line and the Museum of Fine Arts stop on the Green Line. Parking is available at the Renaissance Parking Garage at 835 Columbus Avenue.

    The panel will begin promptly at 6pm. Guests are encouraged to arrive ten to fifteen minutes early. Refreshments will be served.
