Please join us for the inaugural session of the Fall 2023 Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Seminar Series featuring distinguished speakers:
- Holden Thorp, Editor-in-Chief, Science Family of Journals and Professor of Chemistry, the George Washington University
- John W. Warren, Director of the Graduate Program in Publishing and Associate Professor in the College of Professional Studies, the George Washington University
- Laura Remis, M.P.S. '16, Managing Editor, Science Family of Journals
- Dominique McIndoe (moderator), Student in the GW Graduate Program in Publishing; Associate Editor at Rowman & Littlefield; and Writer
Panelists will provide individual insights on responsible authorship, peer review and publication and then engage attendees in discussion, particularly around the nuances, opportunities and challenges in these critical aspects of the scholarly endeavor.
Following this session, attendees will:
- understand differences across and within disciplines and research fields;
- recognize key elements of integrity and importance of adhering to journal guidelines, collaborative agreements, and relevant professional standards; and
- understand nuances related to communication, conflict resolution, confidentiality and disclosures of interest in the context of responsible authorship, peer review and publication.
This session is open to faculty, postdocs, students, and staff at GW, Children's National, and other academic institutions. It is designed to help attendees meet the Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research training requirements set by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and other federal agencies.
